Biography

Lars Roland Görling was a Swedish writer and film director. An odd figure among artists, students and bohemians in the early 60's in Stockholm. His father was a prominent jazz musician. Lars left home early, lived in community homes and identified with troubled youth. In 1961 he published his first novel, "Triptyk". Already one year later came his breakthrough with "491". A socially critical novel and harsh study of forgiveness and oppression. A world he knew far too well. Ingmar Bergman was deeply touched by the story and involved director Vilgot Sjöman in a possible film project. Lars Görling wrote the screenplay himself, Sjöman directed and SF - Svensk Filmindustri produced in 1963. Besides literature and film, Lars was fascinated by racing. He directed a short "Konfrontationer" about the famous sports car race, Le Mans. In 1965 he wrote and directed "Guilt: Together with Gunilla". After a car accident, in the spring of 66, he was seriously injured and never really recovered. Alone in a summer cottage he ended his life at 34, Aug 1st 1966.
